Q&A: Behind the Green Screen with Jono

Green screens have become a staple in the entertainment industry, enabling filmmakers to transport characters to fantastical worlds and create breathtaking visual effects. But did you know that this technology has also found its way into the corporate world? From trade shows and conferences to product launches and marketing campaigns, green screens have become a powerful tool for businesses looking to make a lasting impression.

We had the pleasure of sitting down with Jonathan Hayes, Director at Omega, for a Q&A with more insights and advice on how companies can leverage this incredible technology to enhance their presence and captivate their audiences.

Q: What are some of the top advantages and benefits of using a green screen?

A: You can design any custom or live motion digital background which can include a client’s corporate logo or themed design content as well. These digital backgrounds look so “life-like” creating the illusion that the presenters are at the actual setting scene. Text including “title name straps” as seen during News broadcasts and graphics can easily be added onto the screen creating a more interactive experience for the remote attendees.

Cost saving is also a huge advantage for green screen technology as it significantly reduces production and travel costs as virtual backgrounds simulating the real locations can be created digitally.

Q: What are some of the reasons to make use of our green screen studio?

A: There are multiple business applications which include Panel Experts Discussions, Town Hall Webinar Updates, Training Webinars, Financial Results Presentations and Corporate Videos. These applications can be streamed live or recorded and edited afterwards (post-production) to be streamed at a future date which will look like it was recorded live.

Q: Are there any emerging trends or developments in green screen technology?

A: Green screen technology, also known as chroma keying, is widely used in the video film, photography, and studio industries to create realistic and virtual effects. There has been some emerging trends and advancements to green screen which include the following:

  • LED panels used in large video wall formats are being increasingly used to replace traditional green screens. These panels emit a consistent green colour, providing improved lighting and reducing post-production time and effort.
  • Augmented Reality (AR) Integration: Green screen might integrate with AR technologies, enabling the overlay of digital information onto the real-world environment in real-time.
  • Holographic Displays: This will allow for the projection of virtual elements onto physical elements, creating immersive mixed-reality experiences.
  • Extended colour gamut: Advancements in camera technology and digital processing have enabled the use of wider colour gamut allowing for more accurate and realistic chroma keying.
  • The sustainability of our planet: As the world focuses more on sustainability, virtual sets are becoming increasingly prevalent over physical building sets due to waste consumption, saving energy consumption and production costs.

Q: In what ways does Omega support companies using our studio?

A: We work closely with marketing agencies and our corporate clients to host multiple applications as mentioned above to create the ultimate event experience. Our technical expertise can also assist the marketing teams and agencies with creating production content, background music and title straps required for the actual event application.
